Petrozavodsk is a city in Russia, capital of the Republic of Karelia. Located on the banks of the Petrozavodsk Bay of lake Onega, in 412 km from St. Petersburg. Is 350 km from the border with Finland. Is a large railway junction. Located on the E105 highway (Saint Petersburg – Murmansk - Norway), is the beginning of several roads of regional importance. The administrative division has not. The population of 270,6 ths, 76,64% Russian, 9,17% Karelians, 5,26% of Belarusians of 2.69% of Ukrainians, of 1.98% of Finns.

in the Beginning the construction of a gun plant, founded in 1703 year by the decree Peter the great (hence the name). City status and the name Petrozavodsk got in 1777 year. In 1941 year was occupied by the Finnish Karelian army and renamed to Aanislinna (translated as "Fortress on Onego). In 1944 year after the entry into the city by Soviet troops, was returned to its former name.
